So I ventured home this weekend (read somewhere recently that the more you open up about the ‘real you’ the more people on the internet will adore you btw), and after volunteering at the local kitten shelter and doing a quick shift in the children’s hospital I managed to watch the Newcastle game.
I play in goal myself, so when Callum Hudson-Odoi lined up to shoot in the sixth minute I found myself muttering internally “Nick… what are you… Nick you can’t stand…” and then this happened.
*THUD*
Granted I play in a 7-a-side league that’s more about having an excuse to get some pints in on a Sunday, but even still, I think I’m qualified to say… that is not what you do. If a player is lining up a shot from 25 yards fractionally to the left of centre, you don’t take your starting position off the opposite post and leave him fully two thirds of the near side to aim at.
Like genuinely have you ever seen a reverse angle replay like this where the goalie *isn’t even in the frame of the shot!?*
Anyway, it got me thinking, that’s really quite unusual for Newcastle United because they do actually have the best goalkeeper in the entire Premier League. In a way.
